Fitness Trends 2022

As we start a new year, we are seeing two distinct splits in the fitness trends for the coming year. At first appearance they seem in opposition (and may be), but they might just help create a good balance between each other. One had been building since the pandemic, the other is a return to basics and simple movement.

Virtual Classes

Just like in 2020 and 2021, people still are turning to virtual classes. Virtual classes remain easy, convenient, time efficient, and an option when spikes of illness appear. From the privacy of our own home we can still get our workout in, but see others and get instruction in a virtual class.

First Fall Weekend

Fall is officially here. This season has some of the best weather for being outside. It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold. Fall is just right. So how can you take advantage and be moving at the same time? Here are some of my favorite ways.

• Hike (I love Devil’s Hopyard and just recently discovered the blue trail at Castle Craig)
• Walk a town green
• Get one last walk on the beach in
• Run with a friend
• Pick Fruit in a local orchard, but walk to the fruit and skip any hay rides to the fruit
• Bake a pie from scratch—skip out on electric mixers and mix by hand for a slightly higher calorie burn
• Take your favorite exercises (pilates, yoga, kick boxing) and do some moves outside in a nice park

I love all the instructors at Personal Euphoria, but I especially love them when they call me in the dead of winter after we’ve had two snow storms that dropped over a foot of snow like Jeannine did this morning and tell me the following:
“I think I’m going to move my stationary bike outside. I need to breath the outside air because it makes me feel good.”
Joe Pilates would love this. It’s so simple and so true. It’s one of the reasons that I really don’t mind shoveling, especially when time isn’t an obstacle. Last week after I finished shoveling on Thursday morning, I just laid down in the path I’d shoveled and looked up at the sky and took a few deep breaths. If my neighbors could have seen me they probably would have thought I was crazy, but I just didn’t want to go back inside right away. It felt so good to be out. I guess I have to admit it, I felt really good after I shoveled […]
