Last Day of Pictures

The final day of taking pictures of my food! Today we celebrated my birthday at my Mom’s and I requested my usual meal that we have once a year. Most people refer to it as fried dough, but my Italian family refers to it as pizelles (to most Italians pizelles are cookies). My mom makes the best fried dough and once I year I devour it as if I haven’t eaten in centuries.

Workout: Walk 4 miles in 1 hour, 30-minute Pilates

Breakfast: Two poached eggs on 1 piece toast
Lunch: Left over chicken and asparagus
Appetizer: Bean dip on Triscuits
Dinner: SIX fried dough, some with sauce and cheese, some with granulated sugar
Dessert: Cherry Nut Cake with homemade dark chocolate ice cream
Drink: Cherry Soda (all natural)

Don’t think I passed on anything I desired today. My fried dough record is seven, but I couldn’t make it happen. By the end of the night I was so stuffed I didn’t think I’d ever need to feed myself again.

Mind & Body

Remember that what you do with your body effects your mind. I see this constantly in myself. If I skip exercise, I start to feel frustrated and antsy. When I keep active I have more energy, stamina and am considerably happier.

But it works the other way too. What you think with your mind effects your body. If you think you can’t do something, you won’t be able to. If you think you can, you probably can. So next time you go to a challenging class, or take a long walk, or whatever you do physically, tell yourself you can.

Type A

I think it’s safe to say that I am a Type-A personality. I’m competitive, driven, a perfectionist, I’m often in a rush, hate wasting time, and constantly in motion. As with anything there is a good and bad that comes with this (very generalized) category that I have clumped myself in.

But as a Type-A personality I’d like to speak to all the other Type-A’s out there. Type-A people are individuals who will do full push ups even when they shouldn’t because they aren’t strong enough or it hurts there shoulders, elbows or wrists. We will literally muscle through everything, but that doesn’t help our body get stronger.

We’ll work through an injury, frustrated with ourselves that we are hindered, when the best thing we can do for ourselves is take a break or adjust so that we can slowly rebuild strength without injuring ourselves more.

I know it can be hard, but sometime to be the best you can be you’ve got to rein yourself in a little. Simon and Garfunkel got it right: “Slow down you move to fast. You’ve got to make the morning last.” Instead of the […]

Our Erect Posture

Here’s something to consider…

By standing upright we put all our vital organs at more risk. They are more vulnerable. Quadrupeds protect their organs better just by not having them exposed to everything the world confronts us with.

Seems like a pretty good reason to strengthen the core. If nothing else it will provide more protection for all the valuables inside of you.
