Stuck on any last-minute gifts for people you love? Encouraging people to move is a wonderful gift. Of course you never want to try to twist someone’s arm if movement isn’t their thing. This year for CT LIVE we put together a few fitness ideas that are playful and practical. Click here to watch. I hope these ideas help with someone you are stuck on. And we aren’t paid by anyone to plug these gift ideas…

Trekking Poles: Can’t speak highly of these enough. I started hiking with them in my 20’s. I was embarrassed because no one my age used them, but my knees felt so good when I used them. People resist them but they are a game changer for anyone you know who likes hiking (and wants to continue lifelong) or anyone you know who is getting a bit older and a little unsteady.

For hikers they give you a more full-body workout, help you move faster, burn more calories, help with balance, and reduce how sore you’ll be after you hike.

A Stretch Strap: this gift can be for the person you know who LOVES stretching or the person who HATES it but needs a little help. Plus, it’s really reasonably priced so it’s a great stocking stuffer. I love this for anyone who struggles to do a quad stretch. If you can’t grab your own foot, you want a stretch strap!

My Book: Shameless plug, but KEEP MOVING is filled with useful tips for anyone returning to movement, dealing with chronic pain, or anyone who wants to ensure they have good form and understand why certain moves matter. It’s filled with stories and cartoons to help you learn more about your body.

Note: people often try to purchase my book directly from me because they think that is better. I’m happy to sell a copy, but I’m happy anyway it sells. If you ask a local bookstore to order it, that’s a win. You support local and they hear about my book. If you order it on Amazon that is considered a “verified purchase” and if you write a review, it helps encourage sales through Amazon (that is invaluable). Point is, there is no wrong way to purchase my book. I’m happy for every sale however it comes.

Rebounder: This year before the CT LIVE segment, I asked clients what their favorite fitness tool was. The Rebounder kept coming up. It enables a great cardio workout while being gentle on the knees. It’s so playful, I challenge anyone to try it and not smile. If you go this route, just make sure you get a rebounder that states the weight limit (some are made for kids and you want to ensure you have one that can handle every adult that might get on).

Toss Game: Whether it’s the toss game or a glove and ball. The idea of having a game of toss is so underrated. It’s a time to chat, get some movement in, and can even been a great stress reliever. Think of something you can have a toss within the backyard, at the beach, or better yet something soft enough you can safely have a toss indoors. When I used to work in an office, we would toss around a foam apple. It was great for chilling out a little bit and helping ideas flow.

Hope this helps fill a slot you still needed filled for gift giving.

And, though these ideas for exercise to keep feeling good in the kitchen while cooking and baking all day came out around Thanksgiving, they remain useful through this entire holiday season. Happy Holidays and I hope all these tips help you to keep moving and have movement feel good!
