If you look online you’ll discover that different websites claim the human head weighs anywhere between 8 and 15 pounds. Either way, that is a lot of weight for the neck to support all day long. That’s one of the reasons so many people carry tension in their neck. So today, take a moment to release your neck. It will revitalize you for the rest of your work day. As long as they don’t hurt and you don’t have a preexisting condition, try these exercises throughout the workday whenever you feel sluggish.
First:
Sit up tall and tilt your right ear toward your right shoulder. Only tilt as far as feels comfortable. You should feel a gentle stretch; not a strain. Inhale through the nose, exhale out the mouth. Hold for 10 seconds and then do the other side.
Second:
Sitting tall, turn your head to the right. Tilt your chin down as if you want to look at something on your right shoulder. You should feel a stretch through the opposite back side of your neck. Keep breathing. Hold for 10 seconds and then do the other side.
Third:
Sitting tall, tip your chin towards your chest as you inhale. As you exhale lift your chin away from your chest. Try not to over extend the neck when you look up. Only lift your head so that you can see where the wall meets the ceiling. Repeat 5-8 times.
This whole stretch should take about one minute, so repeat the stretches as needed. Remember. Always listen to your body and don’t do anything that doesn’t feel right to you. Enjoy the rest of your day!
